Vision Resources - The Centrality of Vision & Leadership

When it comes to ministry vision, that kind of vision is a gift of God.  It is the ability to “see" in your mind’s eye what God has called you to be and do; and, the faith to believe that what He has called you to be and do, He will bring about.

It was once said, you’ll never (effectively) lead a calvary charge if you think you look funny on a horse.  There’s some truth in that, but how are we to think about leadership from a Christian perspective and live that out? An excellent leader knows where she’s going (and that where she’s going is worthy and good) and is able to have (healthy) people follow her

Note:

  • The  success of any organization is in direct proportion to its ability to motivate and helps focus its members in pursuit of the organization’s goals.  In the context of ministerial organization, momentum is gained as the number of similarly committed members increases, while at the same time the “velocity” of their work toward its goals increases.
  • Remember that while synergy is hard to quantify, you’ll know it when you see it and that it doesn’t take great numbers of committed Christian colleagues to make a huge difference on campus.  Typically we can see a big impact if only 2% or 3% of any culture (including academic) are committed to the goals of the organization.  However, we’re not interested in just a sudden “big” impact…we are very interested in a very long sustained and deep impact in the lives of people for the sake of Christ’s interests.  We are asking you to join with us in the cause of Christ in academe.
  •  In practical terms momentum is the additional help an organization receives when its intermediary successes produces an increased number of committed members and greater synergy of their work toward the organization’s goals.
  •  That’s why we take the time at the start to make sure we’re working toward the right goals and also take time at the beginning to pick the “right" people to start the project of building a local Christian faculty community.  It is up to the leaders of the local organization to do these things wisely and then program their activities in such a way that the whole of the organization reaches critical mass that produces its own momentum.  This is something we aim for and work for with our 100%, but to see it really happen in a God honoring way, we must also trust God and see Him produce His 100%.  His 100% is more important than our 100%.
  •  So, prayerfully and wisely choose your leadership and organize your meetings carefully to prime the pump.  Good leadership connects and links the activities of the organization (its personal interactions, meetings and its outreaches) in such a way that members can sense a direction and momentum to the group activities in accomplishing worthwhile goals.
