Keeping a Good Thing Going

“Even if you are on the right track, if you just sit there, you’ll get run over.”

As a Christian faculty leader of the fellowship on your campus, also take a look at these suggestions to help you stay within the parameters of your calling as an academic and still aim to reach the world for Christ. You will still need to work hard, but especially hard and smart.

  • Constantly think about building leadership for the group from within the group
    • How do I identify future potential leadership for the group?
    • How do I ask them for help? And, be sure to use delegation of projects and tasks to build commitment from individuals
  • Think about the trajectory of your fellowship
    • If you think of reaching the world for Christ you will think and act differently than if you think of only gathering Christians or merely reaching your campus for Christ. As good as those latter things are, don’t make them the enemy of the best to reach for. Pray and leave the results to God.
    • Vision is caught by your people from you, rather than merely taught.
  • Think about the people you are developing
    • Praying for them.
    • Evaluate ways they can contribute to the whole.
    • Create a prayer item and person list.
    • Create a culture in which they can flourish.
  • Thinking about the vision of your group
    • People are not inspired by mundane things.
    • How do I keep the vision always before them outside the meeting by what I do in the meetings?
  • Thinking about the momentum of your group
    • What creates group “momentum”? Hint: lots of things including: dependence on God, having regular meetings that your audience appreciates and admires, and is inspired by. Keeping the vision before the group through your words and actions.
  • Keep identifying, what are your human and other resources?
    • Where can you get meeting rooms?
    • How can you have someone help you set them for the group (involvement breeds commitment).
    • Who are the speakers you can bring in that can inspire and inform the group?
    • Are there any catalysts that can help you with this?
