Version 1.9

Historically the doctrine of the existence of the soul (and body)--that there are fundamentally two type of things, material and spiritual--has enjoyed a long legacy in Christian theology. Not until the middle of the 20th century did this begin to change. Now there are Christian theologians who hold or claim to hold a high view of the Bible who have become  materialists with regard to this or if they are dualists they are property dualists. There are others still in the community who hold the more traditional view and are substance dualists. To get some background on this history you’re encouraged to view John Cooper’s podcast on the “Substance Dualism Podcast” tab (above). Just click on that tab and scroll until you find his video Podcast...and enjoy. It’s a good place to start, but not the last place you should look.

This site is to acquaint you with the issues that are currently being talked about, written about and researched. There are many resources on this site from non-theists and we include them because of their academic credentials and their contributions to the conversation. However, including them doesn’t mean that we endorse what they have to say. Indeed in many cases we may strongly disagree with their thinking, but for the purposes of understanding multiple points of view so that you can interact with them, we have included their work and opinion. You’re invited to think critically about all the content on this site by means of an informed biblical perspective.
