This site is dedicated to providing research resources for you as you seek to understand the intelligent design perspective; it is not necessarily an endorsement of any particular view or form of it (see working definitions tab below). From an historical perspective most Christians have held and still do hold that the universe was indeed designed by God. However, saying that is not exactly the same thing as what thought leaders in Intelligent Design means to say. The Intelligent Design movement argues that there is good empirical evidence in biology (and other sciences) that supports the hypothesis that some designer (or Designer) is responsible for what we observe in biology and in the cosmos. That is, a designer is a ‘better explanation’ for the integrated systemic complexity (information) we see in the biological sciences than purely non-directed naturalistic mechanisms and processes; and is also a 'better explanation' for the apparent fine-tuning found at the beginning and in the development of the cosmos.
